This car underwent a very comprehensive restoration at the hands of its most recent owner. He did not provide receipts, but he stated that his investment was approaching six figures. It was a labor of love. He enjoyed the car and has now decided to invest in some modern American Muscle.
The Rocket 350 V8 has been rebuilt. It was built with a cam upgrade. It has been modified to include an Edelbrock intake, four barrel carburetor and chrome engine dress-up. The ignition is now by MSD. New true dual exhaust was installed with some free flowing mufflers that provide a muscular tone.
The original 350 Turbo Hydramatic transmission was replaced with a rebuilt 400 Turbo Hydramatic. The 400 will handle any horsepower the Rocket 350 can dish out. As you know, this transformation would demand a new driveshaft.
The added strength continued into the rear axle. A new center section was installed with 3.42 gears and Anti-spin differential. New axles were also installed. This improvement will handle at least 600 horsepower. While he was at it, he installed an Aluminum W27 differential cover.
The improvements carried on to new brakes, with the front being discs. The rear brakes were redone. A new radiator was installed. During the process, the Air Conditioning system was converted to R134a Freon.
The interior was converted to bucket seats and center console mounted shifter. A proper tilt steering column was installed. The seats are Ivory in color. The carpet and dash are black. Dyna Mat insulation was installed before the carpet was fitted. A Rally Pac gauge cluster was installed and it functions perfectly. Auxiliary gauges were also installed. This car has Courtesy lamps and a mirror mounted map light.
A very impressive Sony sound system was installed. The original AM/FM radio is still place, so the head unit was installed in the glove box. Amplifiers and speakers were installed throughout the car. A CD changer is mounted in the trunk. The system is controlled by a joystick mounted on the center console. I find this to be better than a hand held remote.
The body was completely stripped and refinished. I believe the color is very close to the 1972 Oldsmobile color called Nordic Blue. The body is straight and does not display signs of body work or unresolved corrosion. The stripes are painted on. Remote Sport Mirrors were installed. New bumpers were installed. Underbody glow lights were installed. This car has a retro-look with the chrome door edge guards and the stainless stone guards.
New Cragar SS Wheels were wrapped with BFGoodrich Radial TA tires. The rears are 255/60/15 and the fronts are 225/60/15. The letters are facing in. With the stance and the wheels/tires, it takes me right back to the 70’s.
The Convertible top was replaced. The entire hydraulic system was also replaced. There is a nice pliable snap-on boot for top down appearance
As you can tell, TONS of money and TONS of time was spent to improve this car. Much more than the asking price. This is a great value and something that does not require additional investment or time to be ready to enjoy.
This restoration is fairly fresh and it shows. You will need to inspect the car yourself and look very closely to discover flaws. Everything is working properly. There is a spare and proper jacking equipment in the trunk. There are two sets of keys. This car is ready and able to participate in any local driving or show event.
