My daily search for Oldsmobiles yielded me this great car. Not only does it have solid bones, it is backed with great documentation and supporting evidence that it is a REAL W30. Stephen J. We have all the original documents from the initial sale of this car. It was sold new by Callaway Motors of Decatur, Georgia. In addition to the Purchase Agreement, we have a copy of the Window Sticker, the Build Sheet, and the Broadcast Card and assorted other documents from the initial purchase. There is also a packet containing ownership history and receipts from work done to the car. If you know about Oldsmobile W cars, you know how important it is to have this information to verify the car.
From every indication, we believe the odometer reading of 52,5xx to be the Actual Miles. Due to the age of the car, we are selling it as EXEMPT from odometer disclosure. However, you will see in the Rocket Report that the original carpet is still in the car, as evidenced by the tag on the rug. It is still in nice condition! That in itself tells me that the mileage is very low.
The sheet metal is all original to the car. It has never been rusted. The chassis is unrestored. While not pristine, it shows you that the car has not seen salt and has not been abused or neglected. The original fuel and brake lines are still in place. This is the result of this car spending almost its entire life in Georgia and Alabama.
This car has nice options like an OW tagged Turbo 400 automatic transmission, 3.23 rear gearing with Anti-Spin differential, OAI hood and air cleaner on top of a 455 Rocket V8 with correct G heads. The original intake manifold and correct carburetor sit beneath the proper air cleaner. The original cast iron exhaust manifolds lead into a welded exhaust system that ends with the proper trumpet tips. The front brakes are disc and the rears are drums. The system has a power booster. There is variable ratio power steering that is managed by a Sport Steering wheel on a tilt column. The Rally Pac gauge package works properly, but the clock is not working. The transmission is worked by a Hurst His/Hers Dual Gate shifter in the center console between the Black Vinyl bucket seats. This car has working Air Conditioning with original R12 Freon and the presence of Soft-Ray tinted glass helps keep the interior cool. The original AM/FM pushbutton radio lights, but does not play. We are going to address the issue. There are Courtesy Lamps throughout the car. Due to the value of the engine and its components, the owner opted for a hood lock.
I need to be clear that the powertrain is NOT original to the car. I have no idea why it was replaced, but I have my suspicions. There is evidence that the current 455 was rebuilt. It is properly equipped with all W30 parts. The transmission is a correct OW heavy duty Turbo 400 from 1971, but is not original to this car. The rear end is also era correct, but not original to this car. The original 14 inch wheels were recently replaced with a gorgeous set of Super Stock I 15 inch wheels that are wrapped in BF Goodrich radial redline tires.
The car underwent a frame-on restoration in 2016. The Matador Red finish is stunning. This is the original color of the car. There is some paint reaction to the lead in the original seams of the body at the junction of the quarter panels and the roof. There is a small area at the rear corner of the passenger side of the hood that displays poor preparation with a bit of lifting. The bumpers have been replated. The glass is all in great conditions. The presentation of this car is very attractive to my eye.
The engine bay was recently detailed to a very high standard. The engine block is painted the correct shade of blue. The hoses and clamps are new and era correct. The brackets and accessories are detailed and correctly finished. The wiring is tidy and correct. The decals are proper. I was very impressed by the job that was done and the resulting appearance and impression made.
The trunk was recently refinished with the proper Black and Aqua spatter paint. New mats were installed. The correct jack, hook, base and lug wrench are present. There is a Super Stock II wheel and radial tire as a spare with the correct hold-down.
This is a very attractive car with very few minor flaws. It is mostly correct in its appearance and really makes a strong first impression. The performance is what you would expect from a 1971 W30. This is a BEAST! You will definitely enjoy the driving experience and find it to be pleasing due to the many options of this car.
