I love 36 Ford coupes. The style is one of my favorites. However, the mechanical brake system and gearing make the car a bit undesireable for frequent driving.
This lovely 36 Ford has overcome my hesitation. The rear axle and front spindles are 39 or 40 Ford with hydraulic brakes. The transmission is early 80's from a Ford Ranger. This offers a three speed, PLUS overdrive. Now you can cruise at 70-75 mph with ease and have confidence you can stop safely.
In addition, the electrical system has been completely converted to 12 volt. Even the heater fan is 12 volt. All the lights, including the dash lights are working properly. An aftermarket turn signal switch is properly installed. As are seat belts. A classic car that has been subtlely modernized.
But the look is original. The Washington Blue finish is not only very nice, but very correct for the era. The mohair interior is superb and very professional. I suppose this car would have originally had a rubber floor mat, it is now professionally installed carpet. The rumble seat is dark brown leather and the rear floor is covered with a very nice rubber mat. The steps are correctly attached to the car.
The glass, running board covering and chrome are all nice. The bias-ply wide whitewalls are near new. The hubcaps and beauty rings look great on the artillery wheels.
The original 1936 engine was rebuilt. It starts and runs great. It has headers and dual exhaust. The tone is perfect. Combined with the overdrive transmission, it propels the car quite handily.
I love 36 Ford coupes. I love that this car looks to be stock, yet has modifications that make it an enjoyable and safe car to drive. Viewed: 158 times.
