1960 Ford F100 Custom Stepside Pickup

This truck started life in San Jose, CA production plant. It rolled out as a six cylinder model. I don’t believe it ever had a heater.

Life in the Southwest was good for this truck. It is very solid with a nice straight body. I had to replace a headlamp. How nice to have the screws back out easily. That doesn’t happen in the Midwest.

When the previous owner brought the truck to the Midwest from CA, he decided to make some improvements. He found an S-10 to donate the chassis and powertrain. Now the truck has a fuel-injected 4.3 V6, 200r4 overdrive automatic transmission and four wheel drive. The entire S-10 chassis is beneath the truck. You now have good suspension, power brakes with discs in front, power steering and reliability.

He channeled the body over the chassis to provide the lowered look. The new bed was raised to clear the frame and rear end. The look is great, yet the ride is smooth.

Assisting with the ride and handling are new radial tires on new wheels. Great look with improved performance.

The exhaust is new and all the way out the back.   The glass and seals is all new. The upholstery is new.

The floors were altered to fit the chassis. The radiator support, radiator and entire engine bay were grafted to the original 1960 body. During transformation. attention was paid to the lighting system. However, the horn, wipers and gauges were not retro-fitted and are now unfunctional.

The paint is very artistic. Greta creativity and skill were used to make it appear old, weathered and flawed. I am not going to use the “p” word to describe it, as that would be incorrect. Let’s just say the paint is very unique.

The addition of an antique “swamp cooler” gives the truck character. At a recent car show, it was quite the point of conversation. The old guys knew the answer to the young guys questions.

As a result, this is a reliable truck that will easily compete with freeway traffic while looking old and cool. It handles great and is so much improved over a bone stock 1960 F100.

The work is done. All you need to do is put gas in the tank and enjoy yourself!
